Preschoolers are beginning a month of learning that God wants us to do the right thing. We begin this month in the book of Genesis by looking at the story of Joseph. Joseph’s brothers didn’t do the right thing — as a matter of fact, they sold him into slavery — but Joseph did do the right thing. Sometime after Sunday, use some toy people to act out scenarios with your child in which she has to make a choice to do the right thing. Maybe her room is messy when a friend comes over to play or she’s in the sandbox when her Dad says it’s time to go. Take this time to remind your preschooler that God wants her to do the right thing because God loves her and knows what’s best for her.
Elementary kids begin a brand new virtue of self-control - choosing to do what you should do, not what you want to. This week, we want kids to understand that if they don’t show self-control, someone will get hurt! Kids will begin to understand why it’s so important that we control ourselves in all situations. Sometime after Sunday, ask your child about the area of his life that he finds the hardest to show self-control. Help your child think of ways that he can show self-control no matter what!
Take the time to talk with your child about what we talk about here at church! You have to reinforce it at home for us to make an impact! I’ll see you Sunday!
