Can you believe it? July is almost here! I am so excited about Wednesday nights here at Northwood during July and August! We are beginning a summer midweek program this Wednesday night called MythBusters! The goal of MythBusters is to bust up the myths that society gives our kids. This week, we’re looking at the myth that when we die we become angels. Is it true? Is it a lie? We’re going to look at Scripture to see what it has to say. Each week, we;ll look at a myth that kids have about life and about spiritual things. We’ll dive into the Scriptures to see if the myths or a truth or a lie!
Of course, we’ll continue our crazy fun on Wednesday nights too - just in a little different way for the summer! i think this has the potential to be a life changing series int he lives of our kids! Kids see commercials, TV shows, movies, bumper stickers, and greeting cards with sayings and cliches everywhere! In this series, we’re going to BUST some of these MYTHS to teach children not only spiritual truth, but how they –even as a child –can figure out what is truth and what is not!
I can’t wait to see your child this Wednesday! We’re going to do some BUSTING! Your child won’t want to miss any time this summer here at Northwood!
Sunday is on its way….here’s what’s going on here at Northwood…
Preschoolers are continuing to talk about David and Jonathan. Sunday, your preschooler will learn that David helped by taking care of Jonathan’s family. David did many things to help Jonathan’s son Mephibosheth. Sometime after Sunday, have your child pick out a special doll or stuffed animal to bring to dinner. Ask your preschooler to help prepare dinner for that special guest. As you prepare dinner, remind your child that God wants us to help others, just like David helped Jonathan’s family.
Elementary kids are taking a break from humility and learning to navigate the Bible. This week, we want kids to learn that they can memorize Scripture and apply it in their lives. Kids will learn how to find Scripture in the Bible and learn why it’s important to memorize Scripture. Sometime after Sunday, pick out some of your favorite Scripture passages. Help your child find those passages. Help your child understand that we need ot memorize Scripture so we have it with us everywhere we go!
I hope you have a great weekend and I’ll see you on Sunday. Continue to remember Erin Stewart in your prayers. She is an incredible preschooler who needs your prayers today!
t is Wednesday night and time for our last Summer CAMP 2 this year. Tonight we are learning to deal with times of discouragement in our lives by looking at Romans 12:11. This verse tells us to keep our spiritual fervor no matter what’s going on in our lives. Our energy, our zeal is not something that we have to manufacture for ourselves. God’s Spirit working within us gives us the power to persist no matter what’s going on in our lives. The Holy Spirit provides everything we need to stay on course.
Tonight, kids will playing a game of Messy Monster Volleyball! They’ll be playing volleyball with a goo-covered ball and getting messy again! This will be our last week of Summer CAMP 2. Next week, we begin a brand new Wednesday evening program called MythBusters! I’ll talk more about it on Monday’s blog.
Hope you have a great day and I’ll see you tonight!
Thank you so much for your comments about this year’s VBS! I am so glad we were able to make such a difference in the lives of kids last week! We had 150 kids enrolled this year and 24 decisions to accept Christ as Savior. I will be following up with those kids one-on-one this month! If you missed the recap video at Family Night…take a look!
This week has flown by! It’s our last day of VBS Adventure Week! Tonight, we’re continuing to look at the power of Jesus. Tonight kids are learning that Jesus gives us the power to tell others about God. Kids are hearing about the Holy Spirit at Pentecost and how the Holy Spirit helped the disciples tell people from different lands about Jesus. Kids will have the opportunity to practice using the language of God’s love by writing thank you notes to the VBS staff members. Continue to remind your child to conplete his Daily Challenges before coming to VBS! It really helps kids learn to apply what they learn at church when they get home.
It has been a great week! I want to remind you that Family Night is tomorrow night, Friday, June 20 at 6:30! You’ll experience our worship rally, see a video of your child’s week at VBS, and have hot dogs and ice cream sundaes on us! I look forward to seeing your child tonight and to seeing your family tomorrow night!
VBS Adventure Week continues tonight as kids learn that Jesus gives us the power TO LIVE FOREVER! Tonight is the most important part of the entire week! Tonight, kids will hear how Jesus took the punishment of everyone’s sins by dying on the cross and coming back to life. Kids will have a chance to think about the mistakes they’ve made and have an opportunity to have those mistakes forgiven by accepting Christ as their Savior.
Don’t forget to remind your child to complete his Daily Challenges from yesterday and invite friends to be here tonight! The friends your child brings tonight could have their lives changed forever through the INCREDIBLE POWER of Jesus!
Kids will also receive a flyer when they leave Adventure Week tonight! This Friday night at 6:30, we will have Family Night here at Northwood! Parents will have the opportunity to experience our loud, interactive worship rally and see a video of their child’s week at VBS!
I’m looking forward to tonight! I can’t wait to see your child again tonight as we continue to learn about the INCREDIBLE POWER of Jesus!
Last night was one of our best days at VBS EVER! We had an incredible night learning more about the power of Jesus!
Tonight, your child will learn that Jesus gives us the power to be brave. I think tonight is one of the most important nights of the entire week of Adventure Week! Tonight, kids will talk about things they are afraid of. They will learn that a man named Peter received courage from Jesus that enabled him to walk on water from Matthew 14:22 - 33. Kids will actually walk on water tonight themselves during their Bible Story time at VBS.
We’re having snow cones for snack tonight and kids will be decorating soccer balls that will go to South Africa with the International Bible Society for a sports camp in South Africa later this year during their time in Crafts tonight. It will be an incredible night of kids helping other kids!
Thank you so much for your emails and comments about this year’s VBS. It means so much to know it’s making a difference. Don’t forget to encourage your child to complete her Daily Challenge before VBS tonight! It’ll mean big rewards for her tonight!
We had a great start to VBS Adventure Week last night here at Northwood! All week long, kids are going to be learning about the incredible POWER OF JESUS! Last night, kids heard about the 10 lepers and the incredible power that Jesus had to heal them. Spots broke out all over our VBS and kids were quarantined - just like the lepers were in Jesus’ day! Out of the ten lepers that were healed, one came back to thank Jesus for his healing. Last night, we wanted kids to understand that we can be thankful people as we rely on Jesus to give us power!
Tonight, kids are learning that Jesus gives us the POWER TO HELP OTHERS! Tonight, kids will find out what it’s like to be blind. Kids will hear about Jesus helping the blind man see by using mud. Kids will learn that they can see the needs of other people and help to meet those needs.
Kids also took home a DAILY CHALLENGE BRACELET last night! Encourage your child to complete the Daily Challenge and let his leader know about the challenge he completed tonight at VBS. We really want kids to take what they learn here and apply it at home. Help us help your child!
I am really pumped about VBS tonight! Don’t forget to invite your friends and neighbors to be here tonight! They won’t want to miss it! See you tonight!
Sunday is on it’s way! I can’t wait! It’s one of my favorite Sundays of the year…the beginning of VBS. Before VBS though, we have our regular Sunday morning activities and here’s what we’re talking about with your children this week…
Preschoolers are in 1 Samuel 18:1-4. They will learn that Jonathan had a great friend named David. As a matter of fact, they were such good friends, that Jonathan wanted to share his things with David because he loved him so much. At bedtime Sunday, explain to your child that some people are less fortunate than your family. Tell your child that she can help by giving away some of her things. On Monday, collect a few toys or clothing and take them to Goodwill or Salvation Army. Remind your preschooler that God gave us good friends and by giving to others, she is being a good friend. I think it’s so important that kids learn what it means to give to others — I mean really give out of their heart and concern for other people. By us working together, we can help your preschooler develop a giving attitude.
Elementary kids are continuing to talk about humility - putting others first by giving up what you think you deserve. This week we’re talking about what it really means to serve other people by looking at Matthew 20:20-28. We want kids to understand that it’s important to treat others like they’re more important than themselves. As a matter of fact, that’s all it means to be a servant…putting others before yourself! Sometime afterSunday, talk to your child about a time when he really wanted to be first, but needed to put someone else first! Talk about why it’s important to put others first. Point out that, during Jesus’ life, He chose to put others first, even when He deserved to be first.
I can’t wait to see you Sunday. Don’t forget to invite your friends to VBS Adventure Week which begins Sunday night at 6:30!
It’s Wednesday night and here’s what we’re doing at Summer CAMP 2 tonight…
It’s all about junk food tonight! Kids will be playing games to win junk food by playing the Junk Food Jackpot - they’ll have to be here - they’ll also be playing the Potato Chip Crunch - although to me it’s more like the Potato Chip STOMP! Kids will play with and eat lots of junk food tonight - it’s every kid’s dream fulfilled tonight at Northwood! Bring your child on an empty stomach! They’re going to love it!
This week, we’re focusing on Matthew 26:41. We’re talking about temptations that seem to be everywhere around us! Kids will learn what temptation is and how to resist it. We’re talking to kids about how strong temptation is but how much stronger God is. We will share with kids that no matter how tempting sin is, God will always give us a way out. We can overcome any temptation we face with God on our side and through prayer by trusting Him.
It’s going to be a great night! On the ride home, talk to kids about how tough it is to resist temptation. Discuss some temptations he might face. Talk about how he doesn’t have to give in to those temptations, but can overcome them through God’s power!
